Still room for improvement

Great half-timbered house, 5 minutes to the old town and the museum. Modern room facilities and bathroom. Nice staff. Very quiet, despite main road. Shutter. Coffee/water in the room. More drinks to buy in the vestibule. A seven-sleeper at breakfast at 5.30 am .
Not barrier-free, many stairs up. Small beauty spots, although newly renovated (paint residue / Missing screws. Wardrobe too small. Heating in the bathroom only with lights on. Daily fresh towels .
Breakfast with flatbread. Sausage/cheese etc. on the table. More bread at the buffet. Unfortunately in original plastic bags and juice in plastic bottles.

Highly recommended

Venerable, ageing, charming hotel. Ideally located. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast. All sights within walking distance. Parking about 300 m away. We will definitely come back.

Adequate But Dated

We were excited to stay in downtown Idar Oberstein since previously we had stayed a bit out of town. Sadly, the experience was lacking and bordered on depressing. I want to be quick to say that some of this is not the property's fault. Idar Oberstein is struggling like many small German cities within maintaining a vibrant downtown. That has had an impact on the property. In fact, the restaurant that used to be part of the hotel is no longer open which combines to limit dining choices for guests. The lack of life in the downtown has contributed to what felt like a property that was struggling to maintain itself. Few amenities were in the room in terms of soap and shampoo. The room was clean but there was hair in the bathroom. Front desk staffing was limited. The room itself was serviceable but furnishings were dated and one window shade was broken. Finally, there is no elevator in this property which makes it very difficult if you have lots of luggage as we did. It pains me to write this as I know that the property is dealing with some things beyond their control but I need to be honest.

Cozy hotel in a top location

A cozy hotel in a great location with a very good breakfast! Nice boss and always friendly staff. Also quiet despite being close to the main road! A special highlight after long walks are the massage chairs.

It seems old fashioned but it isn't. Lovely hotel and well located

On the outside it feels a bit old-fashioned. So did the breakfast room and the stairs, but the rooms were modern. The bathroom too, and everything was spotless. The location is perfect, right next to the small center with terraces and a restaurant. Opposite the mineral museum (20 meters). Free parking, a little further away and only 5 parking spaces, so you can be unlucky and there are a number of cheap parking garages nearby. I thought there were few guests because it was so quiet, but it was full. Another plus.
The breakfast was good but I would have liked something different, but there was plenty of choice so we didn't starve. If I were to go to Idar again, I would just go here again. Don't have to hesitate. Do I have to be able to walk the stairs?
