Pleasant stay on a mountain in the nature

The hotel is on a mountain and there are no other restaurants or cities on walking distance! A car is a must. That said there are several hiking trails in the area and you can even start one from behind the hotel. Hotel is dogfriendly and it was visited by many guests with dogs. Surrounded by forrest i understand. They have a sauna and ping pong table. They have buffet which had a good price. Enough food and even soup and dessert. Good beers as well. Breakfast nice as well. For 1 of 2 days it good. A lot of small and cute towns and castles nearby.

Hotel Zur Burg Sternberg Extertal

Review Hotel Zur Burg Sternberg * (* *) this time 2 stars less unfortunately
We have now booked an overnight stay in Hotel Zur Burg Sternberg for the 2nd time. The first time we had absolutely nothing to complain about and were amply satisfied. This time, however, not at all.
Not a good review this time.
Unlike the first time (we were on the top floor) we can not give a good review for our obtained room this time.
Our room was on the 1st floor (despite the fact that we had indicated at the time of booking that we would like to have our room as high as possible). The cleanliness and cleaning of the room and shower was absolutely not good this time.
On the carpet in the room and on the grey blanket on the bed were dog hairs (see photos). In the shower the joints etc. were dirty and with mold and rust stains (see photos). It was so dirty and unsanitary that we absolutely did not shower in the evening and in the morning. We had to pay € 96.00 for this room. In a youth hostel, I think it would have been cleaner. We did report this to the reception the next morning. The shower tray and the joints were then polished by an interior caretaker but unfortunately he could not do much at that time with such pollution. There were still a lot of dog hairs on the carpet after the interior caretaker was there. This can be a big problem for some people who have a dog hair allergy. But we also believe that we do not have to suffer from dog hair from the possible predecessors. The room should simply for a 3 star hotel be hygienic and clean.
About the room.
This one was big enough and the furniture was a bit Ikea-like but otherwise it wasn't that bad. Only the carpeting was very on the dirty and worn side. There were dirty and bleached spots in it that didn't really leave a good and well-groomed impression.
Breakfast.
Was a bit meagre and spartan but there was plenty present and there was something to be had. The juice machine only gave syrup. It was a reasonable drink. However, unfortunately dogs are again present in the restaurant during meals. Despite the fact that the display cases are open as a buffet. This is not exactly hygienic for a 3 star restaurant.
Staff.
It should be noted that the staff were willing to help and were also quite friendly.
We checked out before 11:00 am and travelled further. We hope that something will be done with our review because we give everyone a second chance.

Very old

Well, the hotel, as mentioned before, is very old. The rooms are a bit musty. Breakfast was adequate, but not in line with the price/performance ratio. The evening buffet is also very simple but adequate. Alcoholic drinks are available for a fee, which is OK, but significantly overpriced. There is a sauna, but only at 50 degrees. Room service is available on request, but we didn't use it. The hotel is generally OK, but the prices are too high!

This hotel has so much potential unfortunately it wasn’t to the normal standard that a three star German hotel is. The restaurant was open from 6 pm till 8 pm for dinner if you arrive at 7:45 pm it’s too late and that is ridiculous as for breakfasts The cheeses and hams and eggs weren’t replenished so choice was greatly limited. The decor when you get into the hotel is like stepping back into the 1980s or early 90s where you imagine men wearing jackets with the sleeves rolled up it was quite an eye-opener, hence saying , that this hotel has so much potential. I can’t complain about the cleanliness and the room had suitable shower and a comfortable bed and luckily a couple of English television channels but no tea or coffee making Facilities in the room which was very disappointing.

An excellent place to stay

A very good hotel with calm & quiet environment. Excellent facilities. Of course connectivity is a problem, if you do not have your own vehicle. It has a very good restaurant, sauna ,swimming pool, the rooms are spacious & has a lot of historical places nearby. The fort next to the hotel provides a nice trekking exercise. It is a very nice place to unwind away from the hustle & bustle of big cities. It really gives a feel of the old world charm.
