Great Hotel in Istanbul/ Fatih

The hotel is close to great attractions and transportation. Staff are cooperative, supportive, helpful, and smiling. Breakfast is fair. Hot water is available all the time and warm hotel. Services are available. Thank you to all staff. :)

Pretty decent but don't get a basement room.

We stayed here for one night as a stopover on our trip to India. The room was OK but we had problems with the door lock which were eventually solved by reprogramming the door key. In addition the safe had been closed by the previous occupants and could not be reopened. This meant we had to carry all our money, passports etc around with us throughout our stay.
The hotel is well situated close to many of the main sights, the Blue Mosque, Hajid Sophia and the Grand Bazaar and is the old picturesque part of Istanbul. It is easy to get a tram to the centre and port but beer in mind you will need to buy an Istanbul Card first from the Post Office kiosk. You then present this at the machine and add funds. The street outside the hotel is lined with bars and restaurants so is very safe. You will be approached by every restraunteur who will try to persuade you to eat/ drink in their establishment.
Following a month touring around India we returned to the Byzantium Hotel for 2 nights. What a contrast! The room we were given was in the basement so was quite dark but it was quiet and the door lock worked and we coukd use the safe. However the room was substandard compared to our original visit. The sink tap was very loose, there was a hole in the sink top , where presumably a soap dispenser should have been fitted, and a number of bathroom tiles were cracked. The shower ( hand held only) was fixed very high on the wall with a very short shower connection so showering beneath the waist was almost impossible. On our original visit we were supplied with individual toiletries ( shower gel, shampoo and conditioner) . This time the toiletries were the type stored in containers on the wall, which definitely looked like they had seen better days. The bed was comfortable but the duvet was far too small and we had to fight for duvet cover on what were 2 very cold nights in Istanbul. Additionally there was a heater in the room but we couldn't get it to work. There were no instructions for the heater, air conditioning or TV. There were tea and coffee making facilities and 2 complimentary bottles of water. So basically we were extremely disappointed with the room.
That said that all the staff are very pleasant, personable and helpful - especially as I had fallen at the airport and hurt my hand ( it turned out to be broken in several places) They all tried to help offering ice, and plasters and advising me to seek medical advice. The breakfast is lovely, nothing like an English breakfast, but the buffet is extensive, beautifully presented and delicious. The dining room staff were very efficient.
The Queb rooftop restaurant is also lovely. The views from there are fabulous, the food is delicious and the staff are very pleasant. Well worth a visit.
So overall there is much to like here but if I were to stay again I definitely would not want a basement room.

Thank you very much for your detailed and thoughtful review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the location of our hotel, the breakfast, and especially the service from our staff. We're also glad that you had a positive experience with our Queb rooftop restaurant, and we appreciate your kind words about the staff's helpfulness, especially in light of your injury.
However, we sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with your room during your second stay, including the maintenance problems, the safe, and the shower. This is not the standard we strive for, and we truly appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve. We will be addressing these concerns with our team to ensure that future guests do not experience similar issues.
We hope that despite these challenges, we can welcome you again in the future, and we will do our best to provide you with a more comfortable and enjoyable stay next time. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Thank you again, and we hope to see you in the future!

Convenient location but also very noisy. Inside the hotel you could hear next door very easily. The bed was very hard. The room needed maintenance, wires out of walls for example. Breakfast was chaotic. They seem to make a habit of making guests change rooms after check in. The pressure to tip is everywhere...boxes, envelopes. Not a very relaxing stay

Nice hotel in a convenient location. The breakfast was good as there was a lot of variety. The room was a bit basic, but it was clean and serviced daily.

Short trip to Istanbul

Stayed here for a short visit to Istanbul with a friend. Hotel is really nice right in the heart of town. I want to send a special thanks to all staff, especially the manager of breakfast Erhan, who catered to my needs during my stay. See you next time!
