Avoid until construction complete!
We were notified by our travel agent 6 days prior to visiting this hotel.
NOTE: not our travel agents fault! They were only notified by the hotel 6 days prior to our visit.
**MAJOR work ongoing on the beach and all along the beach that is ongoing 24 HOURS A DAY!! Yes, 24 hours. A large floating crane, just off the beach, lifting huge boulders off the boat and dropping them into the sea, then use the arm of the crane to batter them making an unbearable noise!
We spoke to the manager but he said it is a Government thing and they have no control over it.
I’d like to argue that this was pre planned and not an emergency repair that had to be done suddenly! This was clearly a pre planned arrangement as it is being done to extend the beach to make it bigger and the hotel obviously decided to keep very quiet about it in order to get bookings!!
We booked a Bay Club beach access room, and the work was right outside.
We were woken at 2.20AM by banging and crashing outside! This continues all day and you cannot escape it! Even at the adult pool. You need your headphones in and sleep with ear plugs in. When complaining that it is not acceptable to have any kind of construction going on through the night, right outside your room, the answer was a shrug of the shoulders and it was ‘out of our hands. It’s a government thing’, but ‘we understand your frustration’. I don’t think so!
An offer to move us from our expensive Bay Club beach access room to one facing the noisy road at the back was not an option for us!!
The hotel itself is lovely, the Bay club room was very modern but sadly let down by the cleaning. Sometimes the used towels left in the bath were not removed and the room not cleaned when we returned at 5pm. We spoke to reception who said ‘oh just call zero to get it done’…
One day we had no bath mat at all and another day we had 3.
The food in the main Buffett restaurant is fine, it’s sufficient and plenty of options, although repeats if you stay longer than a week (we were there for 11 days), but that’s normal. It’s crazy with children running wild and often running into you when you have a plate of food. I must say these were mainly EU children who were a little unruly and their parents not seeming to care. It’s complete chaos in there! The adult only section is nice and families are advised it is for adults only, although on one occasion there were 3 families on there and the staff ignored it? We did raise this. The Al la carte restaurants are superb and we ate in the Turkish, Italian and Asian a few times. Fantastic food and service. Staff are lovely.
Pools.. all filled with children apart from the adult only one, which was nice and relaxing and when families did bring their children in, the lifeguards were quick to tell them that they couldn’t swim/play and there were 3+ other pools to choose from. Plenty of sunbeds and lovely floating cushions.
The hotel caters for families with plenty for children to do. Not really couples hotel in our opinion but great for families. Kids will not be bored.
We have been advised the complaints, which were not just from us but other people staying in Bay Club rooms, were fed back to the Government stating it’s not acceptable to do noisy construction work through the night. Personally I think it’ll continue. The hotel should have advised tour operators that very noisy construction work will be happening 24 hours a day, but the errata my tour operator got sent said no such thing.. just beach closed for work… no mention of noise…very misleading and very naughty Doubletree Hilton.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & SPA Marjan Island. We’re sorry to hear that your stay did not meet expectations.
Unfortunately beach construction timings and noise are out of our hands, as it is an enchancement project which is ongoing in all Al Marjan hotels as part of a broader destination development strategy. However, please rest assured that we are doing everything possible to minimize the impact on our guests and provide suitable alternatives.
As part of this alternatives, hotel is providing transportation to Hampton hotel which is located 5 minutes from us. Moreover, in their facilities you will find a full equiped beach along with Food and Beverages options, which are included for our All and Ultra All Inclusive guests. Our outlets timings and the drink options for our All-Inclisive have been extended.
Once again we would like to apologize if these ongoing project has impacted in your holiday, as we are always fully dedicated to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all our guests.
We hope to have the oportunity to welcome you back once the construction is finished and make your next stay exceptional.

Worst holiday for years
Positives
The staff are really attentive and friendly
Food is varied and of a good standard
Cleanliness of all areas especially the toilets are great
Outside space is good (although see cons)
Negatives
We were told on the 17th February 11 days before we arrived on the 28th that beach was closed 24th Feb for ‘beach enhancements’ (we overheard that other guests were told only a week before the arrived), so anyone getting told after the 17th the hotel new before. The hotel is passing the buck and I believe they knew weeks before but they don’t care for the customers
The excuse the hotel said this was the council only informed them and they didn’t know anything about the works prior to the 17th. As an Engineer for 30+ years I find it unbelievable that the works outside the hotel that they were only given 7 days notice to plan and organise such a engineering contract it would take months to plan these works as the works wasn’t only at the Hilton Doubletree but other beaches in the bay were affected. The works were 24/7 and were random moving from one place to another that totally spoiled our holiday and the hotel passing the buck is very poor. Anyone going here before 24th March (as we are told by hotel but don’t count on it) I am sorry there is no beach and expect noise all day.m and night
If you are going to this hotel for the rest on 2025 I would expect to get noise all day as the site next door is getting developed and there is piling works and other building noises you should expect until the site is complete
The other issue we had was the crows at the outside eating areas they are very aggressive and people have to duck to avoid them

Half Term Break
There are other odd issues surrounding drinks, I.e. drinks are available from 10:00 a.m. but water or fruit juice etc., no soft drinks such as 7up, coke, Fanta, etc. then you can get alcoholic drinks from midday - why can’t all soft drinks be served between 10:00 - 12:00 noon?
Sunbeds were easy to find first thing in the morning, especially in the adult only section, and you are issued with a towel ticket per guest.
Food at the hotel is very repetitive and was nearly always lukewarm or cold - very disappointed with this issue, and I have returned home was an upset stomach.
On our last day, we went for lunch only to be total that we had one too many meals in our all inclusive package, as we had lunch on our first day at the resort (please note that we were sent for lunch on our first day as our room was not ready and had no intention to have lunch if it was up to us), we were then total to get a voucher from reception, but first of all they wanted us to pay for the voucher, only for the receptionist to notice that we had been out all day earlier in the week and had not taken our allocated meal on fore mentioned day. Therefore, the voucher was finally issued with no charge but this was an extremely embarrassing situation, as the reception area was full at the time, this is no way for a 5 star hotel to treat their guests and this has never happened to us before, having travelled all over the world, using loads of 5 star hotels on an all inclusive basis (all inclusive in all the other hotels has normally finished when we’ve left the premises - can’t believe how petty Doubletree by Hilton were on this occasion (shocking).
Hotel was spotlessly clean, so can’t fault that aspect, and the staff are extremely polite and professional - pity about these silly management rules, which spoilt our experience.
