Great Time with my Son
Lovely welcoming pub on the outskirts of Newbury!
The staff were very welcoming and were all smiling throughout my short stop!
I have to commend Charlie, Hayley & Kieran on looking after me and my son!
I recommend HIGHLY the COWBOY BURGER!
It was a really tasty experience for a classic cheese and bacon burger but something about it just made it closer to 5 guys experience rather than your average pub burger! Served quickly and it was all hot (as it should be!)
Atmosphere was homely away from home, with locals sharing stories about the history of the place and everything!
My only downside was the hot water in the gent’s toilet wasn’t working, and given the weather conditions at the time it was a rather chilly experience!
Will be coming back next time in town for sure!

Parking Fine
Well what a shock.A wonderful reunion with my brothers after 10 yrs ruined because of a fine through the post for £100.I bought a ticket for one pound & took on board that it was refundable but during the visit the event extended & everyone decided to eat.I never had to pay for anything so the ticket was just forgotten in my pocket.When leaving my brother said that I could have redeemed the £1 ticket but stupidly thought that they might give the un-redeemed monies to charity.
WHAT A FOOL I AM! Now have to pay a fine.Disgraceful!!You won't find me or any of my family in that place again.

Welcoming and relaxing
The place looked very inviting from the outside and I was welcomed by a really friendly and helpful Duty Manager, called Mark, at the bar. He explained all the facilities for the accommodation and also advised of the menu for evening meal and breakfast. The twin room was really clean and well presented. The beds were comfy and cosy and all that was needed was provided in the room. Had a great night's sleep (except for the trains at about 5.30am but that is to be expected with a hotel by the station and railway crossing)
We were met again in the morning by Mark for Breakfast, which was delicious and adapted to our preferences and also my Gluten intolerances.
Nothing was too much trouble, and we were made to feel very welcome. If I ever have the need to return to Thatcham I will most definitely stay here again.

The reception bit was around the side of the bar but I didn't see any signs!
A bit of a wait as they were serving customers.
When checking in, all information is given.
The rooms are set in another building next to the pub.
The room was a good size as was the bathroom.
The bad bits!!
The bed looked like it wasn't made properly as it was all crinkly like someone just laid on top of it with dirty clothes on, lots of black bits, hair and stains.
The bathroom taps and sink didn't look clean at all!
The tea/coffee tray was dirty.
I remade the bed and flipped over the duvet and pillows!
The bed was comfortable enough.
Shower was hot but not overly powerful.
Wifi was good
Breakfast not included, unsure if you can add it on.
Check out the bar door was closed so just put the key in the letter box.
Evening meal was good plenty of choices and good value.
Location next to the train station and a beautiful river.
I'd stay again but would definitely try a different room and hopefully it would be better made up!!!
